Designing in 2019: Three Tips

The most important thing when designing a home is to create a space you love and that is meaningful to the people living there. That sometimes means that what’s trendy doesn’t fit with what you enjoy! There’s no reason to adopt every trend with each passing year, but sometimes it is fun to experiment with design and add in a few trendy touches.

We’ve provided three design tips as you reevaluate your home’s décor for 2019. All are easy to incorporate into your existing home’s design, or require minimal change from what you have now, but will keep your home current!

  • Add greenery: Indoor plants are in right now! They brighten your space, improve indoor air quality, and are easy to add to any room in your home. Place one on the corner of a dresser, in the center of a table, or in front of a window so it gets plenty of light! Some of our favorites right now are the fiddle leaf fig, snake plant, or ivy! Have a black thumb? There are some amazing dupes out there that mimic the real deal, like this one from Target!

  • Less is More: The gallery walls of a few years ago are moving out in lieu of larger statement pieces. You don’t need 20 things to tell your family’s story when a few will do. Edit down your collection of family photos and art, and instead choose one or two that are your favorites to have enlarged. This minimalistic approach is cleaner and less cluttered and leaves space for other items in your space, like a rug, pillows, or furniture, to shine! • Wallpaper: Wallpaper is having a moment right now, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Adding wallpaper to your home is a great way to add color, pattern and personality. Best of all, wallpaper has come a long way in the past 30 years. Many options are now “peel and stick” making them easy to remove should you tire of them. Try out this trend on a small room in your home, like a bathroom, or on an accent wall in a bedroom or dining room!
