Living in the Midwest, we can sometimes forget that our region has many interesting geographical features besides the mostly flat farm land! This summer, make a day trip over to Warren Dunes State Park in Sawyer, Michigan!

Located about 2 hours east of Chicagoland, Warren Dunes has three miles of shoreline and six miles of hiking trails, allowing lots of ways to explore the unique features of this area. The large sandy hills, called dunes, are fun to climb, but coming down is even more fun! Your kids will enjoy running, sliding, and rolling down the warm sandy hills. The largest dune rises over 260 feet from the ground, and once you get to the top, you’ll have a spectacular view of the beach and water.

If you want to stay overnight, there are nearby hotels, or you can pitch a tent and camp on the grounds for a small fee. Pack up the car and have a great day exploring!
