Summer time, while fun, can also be draining because so much is going on. When you feel like you need a break from the hustle and bustle of regular life, make a visit to Reed’s Canoe Trips. Being outdoors in the sunshine on the water will refresh you fast!

Reed’s provides all necessary equipment and transports you from their headquarters in Kankakee to the “put-in” point on the Kankakee River.  This river is one of best canoeing spots in northern Illinois, as much of the river is untouched, providing lots of opportunities for spotting wildlife. The river has many inlets and islands to explore too. The river is classified as a Class I stream, which means it’s suitable for families and beginners. Canoeists must be at least 3 years old and 35 pounds to participate.

If fishing is your thing, bring along your fishing pole! Or if you’d rather, bring your binoculars to study the birds native to the region. You may even spot a bald eagle! Reed’s offers three different trips, ranging in length approximately 2 hours to a full 6 hours. Even the longest trip can fit into a one day outing.

This is the perfect family activity, but if you’re craving solitude, this fits the bill too! Check out Reed’s this summer, and tag your adventures using the hashtag #outandaboutwithcompass on Instagram.
