You don’t have to visit New York City to experience great live theater! And now, you don’t even have to go downtown! There are many local theater companies in Chicago’s surrounding suburbs which are easily accessible, affordable and impressive. Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, located in downtown Arlington Heights, is one of those places!

As a well-established, sixteen-year-old, theater company, their mission is to provide quality programming that entertains the community and enriches lives through art. Their location is home to a 350 seat auditorium where they perform plays and musicals of all kinds, suitable for any age or interest. Their current shows include everything from a Julie Andrews Tribute to The Diary of Anne Frank. Whether you have an interest in history or rock and roll; mystery or fantasy, there is something that will intrigue and inspire you at Metropolis. Be sure to visit their website for a full list of shows and times, as they're always updating their content.  Lastly, if you have an interest in moving from a seat in the crowd to the stage, Metropolis is home to a large performing arts school with 2,500 students!

If you’re looking for a new date-night activity, or a way to expose your kids to a new, perhaps less familiar, form of entertainment, check out Metropolis’s website and find a show that interests you!

As always, follow along with the adventures on Instagram by using the hashtag #outandaboutwithcompass.  See you around town!
