Chicago is a large, busy city, and so are its suburbs, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t opportunities for a retreat to nature! The Lincoln Marsh Natural Area, in Wheaton, offers one hundred and fifty acres of wetlands and prairie land to explore when you need some time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The Marsh is the perfect place to take a leisurely stroll, but they offer many programs to enhance your understanding of this preserved land that’s so close to home. Test out your skills on the Challenge Course, bring the whole family along for snowshoeing this winter, or try your hand at Geocacheing! Perhaps most exciting though are the Owl Prowls! You’ll learn owling techniques from the guides and then hit the trails in search of the elusive nocturnal birds. The evening ends with a campfire and a cup of hot cocoa to warm up. It’s a fascinating expedition into our Midwestern surroundings that’s both fun and educational. Plan a family outing on Saturday, November 19, or reserve a spot in the adults-only prowl on Sunday, December 4.
No matter what you decide to do at the marsh, you’ll leave feeling refreshed, with a better understanding of the natural world that surrounds our communities.
