When you conjure up images of the Midwest, a sandy beach probably does not come to mind first. However, in Chicago, we’re blessed with some of the most beautiful, fresh-water beaches in the country. Lake Michigan is one of our most treasured resources, and it certainly provides its fair share of summertime fun.Copy_of_Out_and_About_with_Compass-_Leone_Beach.png

There are many famous Chicago beaches, but a hidden gem is Leone Beach, located in the Edgewater Park Neighborhood in the northern part of the city. This beach is typically quiet, so you won’t have to fight for your piece of sand, and it’s great for families because there are lifeguards on duty and sheltered restrooms are close by.

If you’re feeling adventurous, there’s kayaks for rent nearby, and a children’s playground too! Otherwise, bring along all your beach gear to build sandcastles with, and pack a picnic to enjoy on the shore while you soak up the sun. You’ll feel like you’ve travelled far, but you’re just a short drive from home!
