Nothing is quite as relaxing as taking a leisurely drive on a country road. Pretty scenery, windows down, and good music on the radio makes for a special afternoon. This spring, when you need to unwind a bit, take a trip to Grundy County to see their unique Barn Quilt Project that’s been in the works since 2003!
Inspired by a project in Adams County, Ohio, the quilt project was started to bring visitors off Highway 20 and back into the heart of rural county living. The 64-mile loop takes you through the heart of the county, allowing visitors to take in the gorgeous views of the agricultural landscape. Along the route you’ll find patchwork quilts that have been painted along the sides of buildings and barns. The designs range from 8-foot squares to 12-foot ones, each with vibrant colors and geometric designs.
Over the years this project has brought visitors to the area which has revitalized this area. Enjoy the drive and stop in to one of the many locally owned restaurants and shops to fully take in the experience. Enjoy!
