One of the best things about springtime is the abundance of fresh, seasonal produce that’s available to us again. Thankfully, there are many farmer’s markets in the area so we can get our hands on delicious fruits and vegetables at an affordable price. Woodstock, Downer’s Grove and Palatine all have well established markets that are held consistently throughout the spring and summer.
The vendors at these markets vary, but no matter which you choose to visit, you’re sure to find high quality, locally grown items. Also, any opportunity you have to meet your farmer and become a more educated consumer is invaluable. You will find those farmer’s market staples like radishes, asparagus and lettuce, but you may also find more unique things to try too which is part of the fun!
Farmer’s markets aren’t just for fruits and veggies anymore, either! At these markets you will find bakeries with tasty pastries for you to take home, cheese vendors with unique flavor blends like apricot brie or dill curds. There are livestock farmers where you can buy high quality meat, and other small businesses selling specialty olive oils and flavored pastas. You may even come across local businesses offering knife sharping, and often times, there is live music which adds to the shopping experience.
So, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy perusing all the Midwest has to offer at the market closest to you! Yum!
