Planning to revamp your patio, porch or deck this summer? What was once a place to enjoy a meal or entertain guests on a pleasant summer night is now meant to serve as an extension of your home. Here are some of the year's biggest trends to inspire the look of your outdoor living space.

Navy is the New Black

Navy is the new outdoor neutral, according to Esse Tarolly’s 2016 Outdoor Furniture Trends. Though a coastal-style basic, navy is extremely versatile among home décor styles. Pair it with crisp whites for traditional appeal, metallic accents for a luxurious look or pop in some contrast with corals, pinks and greens.

Back to Basics

Beige is still topping the charts of pillow color selections. Effortlessly timeless, beige allows you to change your look each spring with traditional or whimsical accents.

Traveler’s Motif

Think Batik or Ikat print pillows and Acapulco chairs. Even if you haven’t actually traveled anywhere recently, globally inspired prints in highly saturated hues coupled with artisan furniture pieces provide a bold, bohemian-style escape.

Neon Pop

A great trend for the color-fearful! Even if your interior walls are shades of beige, gray and white, adding some neon accents to your outdoor living space is a great (and easily changed) way to introduce a bit of excitement into your color scheme.

Concrete Elegance

These modern, heavy planters are on every home decor website from West Elm and Target to Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrell. Want a concrete planter to match your home style? You can DIY. Better Homes and Gardens offers a great tutorial for inspiration.

A Little More Conversation

The standard patio dining set is becoming less and less typical for outdoor living. Conversational sets, chaise lounges, chair “chat sets”, bistro sets and canopy daybeds are topping the best-selling lists for patio furniture among several retailers.

Get Distressed

Just like buying jeans with frayed holes, distressed patio furniture is in. The upside is that you can refurbish any of your wooden patio furniture to achieve this lived-in look.

Wicker & Rattan

Wicker and rattan furniture and accent pieces are on the rise again as advancements have made these materials more durable to withstand the elements over the years.
